About Tony

I’m Tony Thompson — a husband, dad, 4th generation on the farm, small-business owner — and I’m running for the Iowa State Senate because I believe deeply in the power of strong families and strong communities to build a strong future.

This district isn’t just where I campaign.

It’s where my family lives.
It’s where I work.
It’s where our story is rooted.

Roots & Family

Amanda and I are raising our family right here in central Iowa. Like many families in our district, our life is a mix of work, school events, community commitments, and doing our best to juggle the rising costs of everyday life.

We chose to build our life here because we believe in:

  • The strength of small towns

  • The value of hard work

  • The importance of neighbors looking out for one another

Those values aren’t slogans to us. They’re how we live.

Work, the Farm, & Community

I grow food here. I work here. I build community here.

My professional life has taken me through agriculture, education, finance, non-profits, and technology — always with a focus on how policy decisions ripple through real families, farms, and small businesses.

I’ve worked alongside:

  • Manufacturers looking for ways to innovate for sustainability

  • Farmers trying to stay profitable in a volatile economy

  • Small business owners navigating rising costs and changing customers

  • Nonprofits working to strengthen food systems, housing, and conservation

I’ve seen firsthand what right-sized, thoughtful policy can unlock — and what careless policy can quietly take away.

Why I’m Running

I’m running because too many families are doing everything right — working hard, caring for their neighbors, contributing to their communities — and still feeling like they’re falling behind.

We see it in:

  • Property taxes rising faster than incomes

  • The cost of healthcare and childcare

  • Infrastructure that can’t keep up with growing communities

  • Schools being asked to do more with less

Too often, decisions at the Capitol feel disconnected from daily life here at home. I believe our district deserves leadership that is rooted in local experience, not political calculation.

I’m running to be a steady, practical, community-grounded voice for the people who actually live here.

How I’ll Lead

I believe leadership starts by listening — not talking.

As your senator, I will:

  • Put working families first

  • Focus on long-term solutions, not short-term politics

  • Work across party lines when it benefits Iowa families

  • Stand up when policies shift costs onto those least able to bear them

  • Stay accessible and accountable to the people I represent

I don’t believe in governing from a distance. I believe in showing up, hearing concerns directly, and doing the hard work of finding common ground.

A Little More About Me

When I’m not working or out in the community, you’ll probably find me:

  • Tinkering around the farm

  • Grabbing coffee with neighbors

  • At a school or community event

  • Reading a book

  • Or spending time with my family

I believe the best leadership is grounded in everyday life — not in the political bubble.

Let’s Build This Together

This campaign isn’t about me alone. It’s about what we can build together for our district and for the next generation.

If you believe in:
Strong Families, Strong Communities, and Strong Futures -

then I’d be honored to earn your support, and your vote.
